Those who write, read

“The greatest part of a writer’s time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man will turn over half a library to make one book.”
—Samuel Johnson

At my day job, I participate and help direct the path of our women’s initiative. To that end, and based on my endeavors as an author, I’ve been tasked with spinning up a book club. The book club should meet the needs of the women who participate in the initiative, motivate women to participate in the initiative, and provide value to their growth at our company.

The initiative is focused on education, leadership, and developing women to attain their career goals within the organization. There are three books on my radar at the moment:

  1. Know Your Value: Women, Money, and Getting What You’re Worth by Mika Brzezinski
  2. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
  3. WE by Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel

My goal isn’t just to recommend books as part of our book club but to have women in the organization provide me with a review for the books we recommend. Some of the things I would like to see in a review would be “why this book was meaningful to me”, “what I think other women would take away from this book”, and “the one thing this book gave me was”.

More to come…
